SWAMI VIMUKTHANANDA

SWAMI VIMUKTHANANDA
HEAD OF VIVEKANANDA YOUTH WING

(Ramakrishna Mission is doing immense service for the causes of down trodden and in
the field of education and Social Service. Swami Vimukthananda speaks about the youth
wing and its aim and achievements. He says that there is fire in every young person –only thing it is sleeping and we have to rekindle it. Once it is done it will release enormous energy – when channeled – surely that country will prosper)

Tiruppalathurai – a place on the Trichy – Karur route in Tamil Nadu. There stand the
imposing buildings of Ramakrishna Ashram. Hundreds of destitute children learn and
stay there and the Ashram has provided roof for them- otherwise they would have been
left on the road. Children get up early morning at 4.00 AM. 5-minutes prayer and they go for bath. They wear spotlessly clean wares. After morning breakfast attend the School. In the evening they are taught and encouraged in Sports. After a brief discourse or moral lessons they take night food and recede to bed.

It is not a regimented life for the children. They are encouraged in Fine Arts, Drama, Music, Drawing, Sports and vocational courses in mechanical, electrical, computer and other professions. They are taken on excursions to various historical places and are encouraged to participate in national and internatioal levels.
People studied in this Ashram are spread over throughout the world – working as
Doctors, Engineers, Scientists, and Administrators.

Swami Vimukthananda is the Head of the Vivekananda Youth Wing. Swamiji explains the aim of the youth wing. He says that every young man should live for a noble cause. He should carve out a path that should make him as an Adharsha Purusha. He should rekindle the fire in himself to devote his time apart from office and family works to worthy causes in 1. Aanmeekam (Virtues as adorned by GOD) 2. Education and
3. Social Works.

The day should begin with a Prayer to the Lord- thanking him for given an opportunity to be in this world and take a vow that he will make this day a useful day. He should share the fruits of his prayer with others. The Youth wing arrangements for regular meetings of new members. The first week is devoted in bringing out the hidden talents in him. Each member should place a Quotable
Quote, which he liked and explains why he liked it.

The second week is devoted to Person whom the member liked the reason for it and the
benefit he got from such persons. The third week is devoted to the Social life- the things good he saw in his surroundings and the fourth week some of the worst and bad situations he faced. By such interactions with members he is fully aware about the happenings in and around him and makes him to think and contribute to solve problems.
Can we not do it independently? Why such an organization?

Today’s Youth wanders without any aim. There is no one who can guide. He involves
himself in a closed circuit- with 2 or 3 of his close friends. He should come out from this closed circuit and understand that there is so much he can do – which will be useful to him, his family and to the Society at large. Society and the Government should understand the aspirations of youth and give them a helping hand. Youth energy is like an untamed river. Once it is tamed and channeled it can do wonders for the prosperity of the country- Says Swami.

Analysis:

It is quite true that our country has not exploited the enormous energy and talents of Youth. In our country more than 40% of the population is Youth. Their energy and
talents should be recognized and utilized and what the Ramakrishna Ashram is doing is
well-timed, noble cause. There should be hundreds of such organizations- not connected with politics in every corner of the country.

· Youth Power is a powerful force to reckon with.
· If released it can generate enormous energy.
· Channalize it – the result will be marvelous.
