Saint Thiagaraja Song List

I had opportunity to come across the list of some famous songs-which I reproduce below


1) He composed the song “Namo Namo Raghavaya” at the age of 13.
2) On Narada teaching him he is said to have sung Sadhinchane, the third of Pancharatna krithis on this occasion.
3) Also His gratitude to Narada also reflects in his other compositions “Narada Guru Swami” in Raga Durbar, “Sri Narada” in Raga Kaanada, “Naradamuni” in Raga Pantuvarali and “Vara Narada” in Raga Vijayasri.
4) When his guru Venkataramanayya wanted to listen to Thyagaraja's  talent and  invited him to perform at his house in Thanjavur. Thyagaraja then sang “Endaro Mahaanubhavulu”, the fifth of the Pancharatna krithis .
5) When on Venkataramanayya recommendationKing of Tanjore wanted Thyagaraja to sing in his favor and so invited Thyagaraja to his palace sending along wealth and gifts . Thyagaraja composed a song called “Nidhi Chala Sukhama and rejected the offer.

Then on pilgrimage he has sung the Kshetra kirthanas

6) At Tirupati
i) he sang a song praying that the curtain of ignorance be removed -  “Tera Tiyagarada” in the Raga Gaulipantu
ii) Also “Venkatesa Ninu” in Raga Madhyamavathi

7) At Kovur he composed five songs on Lord Sunderesha -
                        i) E Vasudha - Sahana
                        ii) Korisevimpa Rare - Kharaharapriya
                        iii) Sambho Mahadeva - Pantuvarali
                        iv) Nammivaccina - Kalyani
                        v) Sundareshvaruni - Sankharabharanam
8) At Tiruvotriyur he sang 5 songs worshipping Goddess Tripurasundari
                        i) Kannatalli Nivu - Saveri
                        ii) Sundari Ninu - Arabhi
                        iii)Sundari - Begada
                        iv) Sundari Ni - Kalyani
                        v) Darini Telusu - SuddhaSaveri

9)         At Kanchipuram he sang 3 songs in praise of Lord Varadaraja and Goddess Kaamakshi
                        i) Varadaraja - Svarabhushani
                        ii) Varada Navanitha - Ragapanjaram
                        iii) Vinakuni Vale - Madhyamavathi
           
10)       Thyagaraja then visited the shrine of Sri Ranganatha at Srirangam and sang  “Sriranga Pancharatna” consisting of
                        i) Rajuvedale - Todi ragam, Roopakam thalam
                        ii) O Ranga Sayi - Kambhoji , Adi
                        iii) Jutamu rare - Arabhi, Roopakam
                        iv) Vinarada na manavi - Devagandhari, Adi
                        v) Karuna judavayya - Saranga, Adi

           
             
11)       At Lalgudi known then as Tapasthirthapuram he sang 8 songs. Of these 3 are on Pravruddha Sreemathi and 2 on Saptharishishvara
                        i) Gati Neevani Ne - Thodi
                        ii) Lalithe Sree - Bhairavi
                        iii) Deva Sree - Madhyamavathi
                        iv) Mahita Pravruddha - Kambhoji
                        v) Esha Pahimaam - Kalyani
                        vi) Nagapattanam
                        vii) Evaru Teliya - Thodi
                        viii) Karmame Balavantamaaya - Saveri
           
12)       Finally back at Thiruvaiyaru he sang 12 songs
                        i) Ilalo Pranatartti - Athana
                        ii) Evarunnaru - Malavasri
                        iii) Ehi Trijagadisha - Saranga
                        iv) Muccata Bramha - Madhyamavathi
                        v) Karuna Juda - Thodi
                        vi) Parashakthi - Saveri
                        vii) Nivu Brovavale - Saveri
                        viii) Bale Balendhubhushani - Ritigaula
                        ix) Amba ninnu - Arabhi
                       x) Amma Dharmasamvardhini - Athana
                       xi). Vidhi Sakradulaku - YamunaKalyani
                       xii)  Shive Pahimaam - Kalyani           

these above are the Kshetra kirthanas

Apart from the above Kshetra kirthanas ( kshetra means holy places) he  composed and sung the Sataragaratnamalikai (In Sanskrit  Sata means100, raga means musical scale, ratna means gem and Malikai means garland) consisting of 100 devotional songs offered by Thyagaraja as a garland to Lord Rama. He also composed Utsava Sampradaya kirthanas which amount to about 26 kirthanas , Prahlada Bhakthi Vijaya Kirthanas about 44 songs and Naukaacharitra kirthanas about 21 songs
