VIJI – THE BRAVE WOMAN

VIJI – THE BRAVE WOMAN

(It happened when I was in America. I got a call informing the sudden passing away of my brother’s son due to heart attack. All our thoughts went to Viji - the 28-year old wife of Suresh. How she is going to face the future? How to console her. What way we can help to reduce the shock)

Viji got married to my brother’s son Suresh in the year 1990. At that time Suresh was doing business in Computer parts. Suresh was brought up in a strict orthodox Hindu family tradition which he opposed from the beginning. His father’s wish were that he should also join Govt Services like him and lead a secured life.

Suresh ambition was different. He thought that doing business alone could fulfill his ambitions –to lead a life with Car, TV and so on. When the business was moderate he got married to Viji.

Viji is the eldest among the 3- children – one sister and one brother. Viji’s parents come from very orthodox family. His father is an accountant in TVS-firm. Viji was studying Plus Two when his father was looking alliance for her- that is when she was 18-years old.

The alliance clicked with Suresh. Viji is a shy girl, well brought up in Hindu tradition. Always smiling she was able to adjust with my brother family and at the same time helping her husband both at home and to some extent at office.

Soon they had one son and one daughter.

In the meantime Suresh built up his business-utilizing the economic boom prevailing at that time. He was successful in some adventures, which gave confidence to plunge more vigorously in business. One Bindu Madhavan met him and gave a very rosy picture about coal business.

Bindu Madhavan’s association was a turning point in Suresh life. He changed his life style when money started flowing in coal business without realizing it is only temporary and lot of risk involved in it. Bindu Madhavan was a clever fellow. Without investing anything, he dragged Suresh to invest large amount of money by taking credits from bank and other sources.

The wind sailed smoothly for sometime. One fine morning Bindu Madhavan showed his color and deserted Suresh. But Suresh was confident that he can handle independently and did so for sometime. During this period he fulfilled all his ambitions- a car, AC, and so on and that of his family.

Then came the recession and his outstanding receivable soared to 1.8 million rupees so also his debt. Worry started to grip him resulting severe heart attack and he succumbed to it.

On Viji’s part she lived very happily with Suresh for 10-years. He fulfilled all her desires when fate suddenly struck her severely on April 2002. She was dazed and felt suddenly a vacuum around her.

She realized that acceptance of what has happened is the first step to overcoming the consequences of any misfortune. Two courses opened to her. One is to wind up and go along with her parents and the other to stay with her in-laws and take over husband business, educate her children, look after the aged in-laws.

She opted the second course- a bold and brave decision.

She passed her B.Com during the period when her husband was alive. Her husband used to involve her in his business. Her Father-in-law decided to work along with her - inspite of his health and age. All these factors gave confidence to her. Soon she attended the STD-business and added X-rox machine. She closed down the Coal business and her father-in-law helped her to recover the dues.

She fulfilled her husband’s wishes by admitting her son in a Central School, her daughter in the best school. She also joined both of them in music school and both of them are doing fine. She is now the tower of strength to her parents-in law. -Who also suffered severe shock in loosing their only Son.

She developed a deep driving desire to conquer worry. She understood that life is too short to be worried . She concealed her sorrow within herself so that it should not affect her parents and in-laws. Only course open to her is to concentrate her husband’s business and develop it. She did.

Analysis:

Some time over ambition kills the foundation itself as in the case of Suresh. There are crooks who should be identified and cast them away-which Suresh failed to do. Viji understood very early after the loss that she should accept the inevitable and in the interest of her children should rise up to face the challenge ahead of her. Success comes to those who are bold and brave.

• In business there are ups and downs.
• One should be prepared to face both.
• When confronted bold and brave decision pay.
• Watch the crooks in business.
• There is no quick way to be success in business.

Just as boyhood, youth and old age are attributed to the soul through this body; even so it attains another body. The Wiseman does not get deluded about this –Bhagavad Gita.
