TRIBUTES TO GREAT ACARYAS ADI – SANKARA

TRIBUTES TO GREAT ACARYAS
ADI – SANKARA

(At one point of time we need to revitalize our energy- especially when we grow old. To us in our search two Acharyas- Adi Sankara and Ramanuja have shown us the path
for our salvation. Adi Sankara was not only a great thinker but also an inspired
champion of Hinduism and foremost missionaries in our country. Born at a time when
humanity was faced with several attractive philosophies Sankara brought his life-giving philosophy of Advaita-Non-dual Brahman of the Upanishads)

Whenever I am troubled or idle I used to go through my book collections. At one stage
they were Textile Technology books but as I grew I found interest–in managerial,
detective novels and magazines. Later I found solace in - religious, philosophic and other social books. I fixed timings for the subjects. I fixed morning hours for reading religious books along with prayers.

At one point of time we need to revitalize our energy- especially when we grow old. To help us in our search for peace, prosperity and success Our Teachers have shown a path. Of them two Acharyas- Adi Sankara and Sri Ramanuja are outstanding. It was a vast program that Sankara had to accomplish in a span of twenty two effective years; for at the age of 32 he had finished his works in this world and folded up his
manifestation among the mortals of the world. One such work is Bhaja Govindam, which
always stands as guide to me whenever my mind goes astray and seeks solace.

The musical rhythm in the stanzas of Bhaja Govindam makes it easy even for children to remember and repeat. For us these poems can remove all our delusions. These slokas are addressed to seekers as a book of instruction to help them walk the path straight to their goal. In nutshell - Bhaja Govindam enunciates: At a point of time- after you got educated, entered the job, married, bequeathed children and their life are well settled- you get a period of vacuum – a Question will arise – For when death comes to erase you out of existence in this world- of what use is your science to you? Of what use of the money you earned all along?

Of what charm is the art that you have mastered? Will it come to your help in reducing your suffering? Of what helps is the knowledge of grammar then- you learnt? Is it going to avert the impending death? While living our endeavor is to understand and master the secret of life, the reality behind them and gain his true identification with it. He must be able to meet death not as a moment of annihilation but as a springboard to propel into the land of God-, which is eternal, peaceful and filled with joy.

The great Acharya was both erudite scholar and commentator of the three foundational
texts of Vedanta but also founder of six matas or devotional modes of Lord. These maths Successful Men known as Sankara Maths are doing yeomen services in the field of Spiritual, Educational and Health to common man. You may ask me a question as to why you have drifted your objective of Opportunities unlimited and landed on spiritualism – which is out of context.

In order to achieve success in your effort you may sometime caught into fatigue and suddenly you will feel that all your efforts are going into waste. That is the point of time Spiritualism will give a helping hand. - Especially the meditation aspect.
Meditation if properly understood is a synthesis and harmony in which diverse
conflicting tendencies are brought into one epicenter and slowly they vanish and in its place a bigger form assumes – that form – you call it – as Brahman –the primal energy. When it is inactive it is called Brahman- when it is active it is called Sakti. Meditation harmonizes the Sakti in you. (KUNDALINI)

Adi Sankara showed us the way to come out of depression and suffering. Pen alone or
Army alone is not enough to win a war you need moral courage and Sankara showed
himself to be a great organizer, farsighted diplomat, courageous hero and tireless servant of common man. Selfless and unassuming this Great Man is a colossus among great masters. We are proud that Bharat produced such a gem in our midst and we pay our humble tribute to this Master.

R.Jagannathan.
