TUTORIAL COLLEGES

TUTORIAL COLLEGES

Two pioneers evolved the concept of Tutorial education for failed candidates in Matriculation and degree courses in India – Trichy Tutorial College by Raman and Parthasarathy Tutorial College by Parthasarathy. Both quit as Lecturers and boldly started Tutorial education. Students admired the printed colored question and answer of past examination papers and the notes on each subject. )

To day we are seeing around us scores of Tutorial Colleges in every small town. Apart
from these colleges Private Teachers are taking classes for SSLC and Degree Courses
and students throng to these places. They are not necessarily failed candidates but want to improve some particular subject to earn good mark.

Institutes are there for coaching students for competitive examinations like common
entrance test for engineering and medical courses, Bank Officers Examination and so on. In olden days students taking tution were considered below average and were frowned by parents. That concept has changed. Frequently there are complaints now that in regular classes teachers are not teaching lessons properly and asked them to take tuition at home.

Whatever may be the reason Tutorial Education has opened lucrative career for this
generation. Students find Mathematics and Science subjects very tough and Teachers
coaching in these subjects earn good income. I vividly remember my meeting Raman of TTC (in 50s) He first worked as Lecturer in National College- Trichy (In those days St.Joseph College, National College and Bishop Heber College were the only 3- colleges in Trichy and students from nearby Districts thronged to these colleges)

Slightly limping Raman was brilliant in English and was very popular among students.
Unlike these days scoring marks in public examinations were very tough and Failed
students percentage was more than passed. Failed students were dark about their future. To whom they can go to improve their shortcomings? Raman came forward to fill up this void and started the Trichy Tutorial College in a rented building. In all aspects the college looked as regular college with a difference- the students had
printed materials before hand and it was easy to follow the Lecture.

Apart from this Raman judged that most of the questions were repetition of past 10-years papers. He prepared guides with answers for questions of 10-year papers. No wonder the results were astonishing. The success rate was more than 90%. Following the success of TTC- Parthasarathy also resigned and started PTC. Both occupied the center stage for more than a decade and many students who studied in these colleges occupied important positions in Government. Tutorial education has come to stay and they are doing well.

In recent years there is subtle change in this concept with the advent of boom in Information Technology and Computer education. Many students who are studying in Degree courses take Computer and Information Sciences by private study to get additional qualification. Institutes like TTC conduct them and the popular one is NIIT. Unlike in olden days for really hard working students there are various courses available for specialization.

Pioneers like Raman and Parthasarathy who are founders for Tutorial Education are being remembered even today. Their efforts to uplift average and failed students are well rewarded today by the number of institutions in all cities doing their job.
In States there are institutions to teach English and Mathematics for non-American
students particularly Asian. Kumaon is one such institute founded by Japanese. Here the students from 2nd standard to 8th standard are coached in English adopted by America (Slightly different than English-England - both in pronunciation and spelling). May be they are off springs of Raman and Parthasarathy concept.

Analysis:

Tutorial Education is another wing of college education. It is equally important one and for really hard working teachers and lecturers there is career here to earn additional income. It is meant not only for failed students but also to improve your knowledge in particular subjects and score high marks and ranks. For competitive examinations these institutes are doing useful services. · Raman and Parthasarathy are Pioneers in Tutorial education.

· A beacon light for average and failed Students.
· To improve your rank and marks.
· To come out successful in competitive examinations
